Storytime for Grownups

It’s a Victorian Christmas celebration here on Storytime for Grownups for the months of November and December. We are reading A Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett. I hope you’ll join us!

Follow these steps to join our Victorian Christmas sing-along:

– Click on this link, which will take you to a video on YouTube. The video is a karaoke track of the song “We Wish You a Merry Christmas.”
-Put in your headphones (so the karaoke track isn’t audible when you make your recording) and record yourself singing along to just the first verse of the song (up until the line “we wish you a merry Christmas and a happy new year”).
-Email the recording to this email address.
Note: You will need two devices to do this, one to play the karaoke track into your headphones and one to record your voice singing. A phone and a computer would work, or a computer and a tablet, etc.
Note: The recording you send in should have only your voice in it. If the karaoke track is playing in your recording, it will not be included on the show.
Note: It doesn’t matter if you’re a great singer, a terrible singer, or somewhere in between! The point here is not perfection; the point is community! Imagine we are all standing around the piano in the drawing room of our lovely Victorian house. No one will hear your individual voice. It’ll just blend into the whole. So don’t be scared to participate!
-To hear the finished product, listen in on 12/22!

Brew a pot of tea, find a cozy chair, and settle in. It’s storytime!

Storytime for Grownups is a podcast that will help you learn to love classic literature. Each season, I read a classic novel aloud (a chapter or two per episode) pausing from time to time to give brief explanations so it’s easier to understand. It’s like an audio book with built in notes. I welcome listener comments and questions and each episode begins with a short discussion of the chapters we read last time, using listener letters to guide us. I hope you’ll join us!
